Special Weather Statement issued July 18 at 7:29AM EDT by NWS State College PA At 728 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Nanty-Glo to near Westmont to near Latrobe. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Johnstown, Westmont, Windber, Ebensburg, Belmont, Nanty-Glo, Portage, Geistown, Southmont, Cresson, Vinco, Boswell, Dale, East Conemaugh, Salix-Beauty Line Park, Davidsville, Beaverdale-Lloydell, Paint, Jerome, and Lilly. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until these storms pass.
