Flash Flood Warning issued July 9 at 4:45PM EDT until July 9 at 7:30PM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ At 445 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain in Pottstown. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas. Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... Pottstown, Phoenixville, West Norriton, East Norriton, Birdsboro, Collegeville, Royersford, Trappe, Honey Brook, Schwenksville, Elverson and Green Lane. This includes the following highways... Interstate 176 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 1 and 6. Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 296 and 309. Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
