Heat Advisory issued June 5 at 1:55AM PDT until June 6 at 8:00PM PDT by NWS Reno NV * WHAT...High temperatures of 95 to 100 today and Thursday. * WHERE...Lower elevations of Northern Washoe County, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties. * WHEN...From 10 AM this morning to 8 PM PDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and sunny skies may cause heat illnesses to occur, especially for those sensitive to heat and outdoors for extended periods of time. Since this is the first heat event of the summer season, many people are not yet acclimatized to heat and may be impacted more than normal. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...These are potentially record setting highs for the date, and unusually early to be close to 100 degrees. The average first 100 degrees for Reno is not until July 11th. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
