Heat Advisory issued July 12 at 5:57AM EDT until July 12 at 9:00PM EDT by NWS Marquette MI * WHAT...Heat index values from 95 to 102 expected. * WHERE...Baraga, Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Gogebic, Keweenaw, Northern Houghton, Ontonagon, and Southern Houghton Counties. * WHEN...From noon EDT /11 AM CDT/ today to 9 PM EDT /8 PM CDT/ this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Marine Weather Statement issued July 12 at 7:15AM EDT by NWS Marquette MI A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Lake Superior from Saxon Harbor WI to Upper Entrance to Portage Canal MI 5NM off shore to the US/Canadian border including Isle Royale National Park... Lake Superior from Upper Entrance to Portage Canal to Manitou Island MI 5NM off shore to the US/Canadian Border... At 715 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 29 nm northeast of Thunder Bay Ontario to 11 nm northwest of Mott Island Park Headquarters to 17 nm east of Rock of Ages Light, moving east at 15 knots. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. This strong thunderstorm will be near... Mott Island Park Headquarters around 740 AM EDT. Rock Harbor around 750 AM EDT. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until this storm passes.
