Heat Advisory issued July 12 at 5:57AM EDT until July 12 at 9:00PM EDT by NWS Marquette MI * WHAT...Heat index values from 95 to 102 expected. * WHERE...Baraga, Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Gogebic, Keweenaw, Northern Houghton, Ontonagon, and Southern Houghton Counties. * WHEN...From noon EDT /11 AM CDT/ today to 9 PM EDT /8 PM CDT/ this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

HAZARD...Quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Damage to vehicles is expected. Locations impacted include... Houghton, Baraga, L'anse, Calumet, Hancock, Laurium, Chassell, Lake Linden, South Range, Alberta, Houghton County Airport, and Keweenaw Bay. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Persons in campgrounds should seek sturdy shelter until this storm passes.

At 1031 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 nm west of The Huron Islands, or 33 nm northwest of Granite Island, moving southeast at 25 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater and large hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Large hail could result in structural damage. Locations impacted include... Grand Traverse Bay, The Lower Entrance of Portage Canal, and The Huron Islands. Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
