Special Weather Statement issued July 27 at 12:28AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY At 1227 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Bronston, or near Somerset, moving southeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Somerset, Whitley City, Burnside, Sloans Valley, Cumberland Falls S.P., Moore Hill, Bronston, Mount Victory, North Corbin, Ritner, Hightop, Youngs Creek, Bark Camp, Honeybee, Gray, Holly Bay Rec. Area, Greenwood, Beulah Heights, Wilton, and Alpine. THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING HIGHWAYS... Interstate 75 in east central Kentucky between mile markers 19 and 31. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
