Special Weather Statement issued June 17 at 4:00AM CDT by NWS Lincoln IL An extended period of hot and humid conditions is expected across central and southeast Illinois through Saturday. Daily high temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s, with afternoon heat indices of 95 to 100 degrees, and as high as 99 to 104 degrees this afternoon. This high heat and humidity may be hazardous for sensitive and vulnerable populations. If working outside this week, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned locations. Be sure to check on those most vulnerable to the heat, including children and the elderly, provide shade and fresh water for outdoor pets and livestock, and check the backseat of your vehicle when transporting children.
