Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Marine Weather Statement issued June 16 at 1:53PM CDT by NWS Mobile AL At 152 PM CDT...Showers and thunderstorms was located along a line extending from 11 nm west of Okaloosa Deep Water Reef to 6 nm northwest of Oriskany Reef to 12 nm south of Petit Bois Pass...moving northwest at 15 knots. Locations impacted include... Fort Walton Beach, Big Lagoon, Pensacola Beach, East Fowl River Bridge, Grand Bay, Fort Pickens, Battleship Park, Okaloosa Pier, Point Clear, and Pensacola Bay. The primary threats from these storms are wind gusts up to 30 knots...locally higher waves...and heavy downpours. Boaters should consider seeking safe harbor until these storms have passed.
