Special Weather Statement issued May 22 at 8:53PM CDT by NWS Shreveport LA At 853 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over El Dorado, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... El Dorado, Junction City, Strong, Calion, Urbana, Lawson, Wesson, Lapile, Felsenthal, Newell, New London, Aurelle, Pigeon Hill, Hillsboro, and Catesville. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for south central Arkansas.

Union County in south central Arkansas... Union Parish in north central Louisiana... Northeastern Claiborne Parish in northwestern Louisiana... * Until 1145 PM CDT. * At 852 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... El Dorado, Smackover, Norphlet, Huttig, Junction City, Farmerville, Bernice, Strong, Calion, Urbana, Lawson, Cooley, Lapile, Wesson, Lisbon, Marion, Felsenthal, Spearsville and Lillie. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
